Remember your pregnancy in full color with belly painting
If I had been told for a few years that I would be painting pregnant bellies every day, I wouldn’t have believed it. Not because it seemed strange to me, but even though I was doing body makeup, when I proposed to pregnant women to paint their bellies they didn’t dare. Luckily, at the same time a friend contacted me to design something beautiful and give color to her belly and word of mouth did the rest. So since 2013 belly painting has become my day to day, and I am delighted to share this experience with future moms.
Belly painting consists of painting the pregnant mother’s belly with a design that she and the father like. Not just any paint can be used to make it, special products are needed for body use and that are tested. At the moment, I always use water-based makeup, since it allows the skin to breathe, it does not dry out, it does not bother, it is harmless and the mother can enjoy it for a few hours without any problem. It is not harmful to either the mother or the baby.
When the mom contacts me, one of the first topics we deal with is the design that she would like to wear on her belly. For me, there is no limit, I am open to any proposal, design… I leave freedom for the family to choose the style of drawing they want. There are those who choose animals, other designs tell a story or anecdote, represent their ultrasound… Always, behind each drawing, there is a story to tell, and above all it transmits emotions to the mother, and that is what belly painting consists of, going further. It’s not just about painting the belly in a decorative way without further ado, it’s quite an experience. During the session, the rhythm of the brushes on the belly makes the mother feel very relaxed, she takes a moment for herself, of rest and fun at the same time, so all the sensations that the mother feels are transmitted to the baby. Therefore, it is a beautiful moment of connection and enjoyment with the baby. In the process of makeup, it is already very common for the baby to give us a few kicks to those of us who are present (the parents drool), sometimes it seems that they play “tag-catch” and are fun, because for them it is also a stimulus.
Once the design is finished, I always make a photographic report, more or less complete according to the preferences of each family. Sometimes it is indoors, and other times, taking advantage of beautiful outdoor locations, because since it is an ephemeral art, at least you have to keep a good memory. For the sessions, I can go home, although there are many moms who come to my studio because where I live, on the Costa Brava, we enjoy beautiful corners to take photos. I must emphasize that body makeup sessions for pregnant women are becoming the TOP gift from family and friends, because in addition to being original, it is always personalized.
Currently, apart from the traditional belly painting session, I also do sessions in neon tones. This type of session is carried out like the other, with the difference that to shoot the photographs black light is required and the drawing looks shiny on a dark silhouette. It’s a totally different bet and for more daring moms, because I usually always do it on half a body. It’s spectacular.
In the very near future, I have new ideas to show new moms that I’m sure they’ll love, but for now I can read on this point.
I thank all the moms who have come to put themselves under my brushes and share with me their concerns about pregnancy, their expectations as future moms, their doubts about motherhood, their stories and above all, knowing that they have had a beautiful baby that will transform their lives. I am very happy to be able to live the moment of sweet waiting with them.
