Backfix i-size receives the Red Dot Design Award 2021
The international jury has awarded the Backfix i-size car seat, by Casualplay, the “Red Dot” distinction for its outstanding design.
Backfix i-size is a new concept of CRS in the i-Size category that covers the entire range of use from 100 to 150 cm. It stands out for its innovative design without a bench, which allows the child to sit directly in the car seat, increasing the safety distance between the head and the ceiling. It is a sophisticated backrest with an adjustable headrest that is installed in the car using isofix connectors, being fully fixed on the seat and providing maximum safety and comfort on each trip.
In the words of Dr. Peter Zec, CEO of Red Dot, “The winners of Red Dot 2021 were particularly impressive this year. The design of their products is excellent, both in terms of functionality and aesthetics. It is not easy to prevail against such strong competitors and convince the jury, so I congratulate them very sincerely on their success.”
Unique in its kind.
The revolutionary design of Backfix i-size, the result of exhaustive development work led by Javier Castillo, Car Seat Product Manager at Casualplay, introduces significant improvements in terms of comfort and safety. By attaching directly to the vehicle seat, sway during the journey is greatly reduced and the child can rest their feet on the ground. In addition, in the event of a collision, a lower position of the head increases the protection of the child, reducing horizontal displacement by 30% in the event of a frontal impact, and vertical displacement by 15% in vertical impact, compared to a conventional seat.
The Red Dot Award: Product Design dates back to 1955 and recognizes the best products each year. The approximately 50 members of the jury were once again faithful to the motto “in search of good design and innovation” at the 2021 event. The international panel of experts, made up of specialists from a wide variety of sectors, examined the products for days, evaluating aspects such as formal quality, ergonomics and durability of the product.
Backfix i-size can be seen from June 21 in the online exhibition of the Red Dot Awards, coinciding with the start of Red Dot Design Week, a week in which the contest will be held online with the participation of Casualplay and the rest of the winners.
From 22 June 2021, Backfix i-size will also be included in the “Design on Stage” exhibition at the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, where all award-winning products are on display. Visitors to the museum can appreciate the quality of the designs in a space that features contemporary design solutions and historic industrial architecture. The Red Dot Design Yearbook 2021/2022 will be published in August. This catalog provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of the art and trends in product design.
About the Red Dot Design Award
In order to be fair with the variety of the design field, the Red Dot Design Award is divided into three disciplines: Red Dot Award: “Product Design”, “Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design” and Red Dot Award: “Design Concept”.
